It's a kind of concept that comes from studying living things first./ And this is not done. /Our concepts ape mathematics, which has been so powerful in making all of our technology. And I'm certainly not criticizing it, putting it down or any silly thing like that. I'm talking into a microphone. (I work..) I('m my) write on my computers. There are lights here. I wouldn't be here if it weren't for technology. But, technology is not a good model for living things. Because it has to do with making separate parts and putting these parts together. And living things are not made out of separable parts. /I'll get back to that.

ある種の概念は、生きているものをまず研究することから生じるのです。それはされていません。われわれの概念がまねているのは数学です。そしてそれは、われわれの科学技術のすべてを作ることにおいて、とても強力でありました。私は確かにそれを非難したりこき下ろしたり、あるいはそのようなばかげたことはしません。私はマイクロフォンに話しかけている。私はコンピューターでものを書く。ここに照明がある。科学技術がなければ、私はここにいなかったであろう。しかし、生きているものにとって、科学技術はよいモデルではありません。なぜなら、それは分離した部品を作り、それらの部品を一緒にすることに関係があるからです。生き物は分けられる部品から作られるのではありません。私はそれに戻りましょう。

*等位接続詞のorが、何を等位に結んでいるのか。そのようなばかげたこと＝それを非難したり、こき下ろしたりすることだと思ったが、わからない。

私はマイクロフォンに話しかけている。

I’m talking into a microphone.

（私は働く…）私は私のコンピューターでものを書く。ここに照明がある。

(I work..)I('m my) write on my computers. There are lights here.

科学技術がなければ、私はここにいなかったでありましょう。

I wouldn’t be here, if it were not for technology.

*仮定法の構文：if it were not for ~：「～がなければ」（［追記］この一文が早くて聞き取りにくい。）

しかし、生きているものにとって、科学技術はよいモデルではありません。

But, technology is not a good model for living things.

なぜなら、それは分離した部品を作り、それらの部品を一緒にすることに関係があるからです。

Because it has to do with making separate parts, putting these parts together.

*have to do with: 成句「～に関係がある；～に対処する」

生き物は分けられる部品から作られるのではありません。私はそれに戻りましょう。

And living things is not made out of separable parts. I’ll get back to that.
